Jeff Treu: Fly Fishing for Steelhead
Jeff will cover fly fishing for steelhead. He has been a fly fisherman for 50 years and has been mostly chasing steelhead for the last 25 years. He has spent time on the Lake Michigan Fishery Forum Committee and strives to create an advocacy for this wonderful fish species and fishery. He has fly fished many of the Great Lakes tributaries and will focus mainly on the tribs of Lakes Michigan, Superior and Huron. He will also discuss the challenges of fishing different seasons with changing water temperatures and stream flows, reading the water, fly selection and presentation. He’ll also include some thoughts on conservation strategies for the future of the fishery.
Matt Kornis: US Fish and Wildlife – Tagging Studies on Lake Michigan Salmon and Trout
Matt will present lessons learned from coded-wire tagging studies of Lake Michigan salmon and trout. He will give an overview of the tagging program and results including info on wild recruitment and movement patterns of Chinook salmon and lake trout as well as preliminary findings for steelhead. Matt will also share information on when salmon start to stage.
