Expert Speakers: Trout Fishing Adventures Within a Day’s Drive
10:00AM – Mousing for Trout Under the Cover of Darkness
Mike Kuhr has been fishing Wisconsin’s waters for over three decades. He’s a night owl, and prefers to chase his quarry after the sun goes down whenever possible. His passion for night fishing stems from the musky fishing outings his father would take him on as a teenager.
Mike is a husband, father, home designer, small business owner, volunteer leader for TU and Project Healing Waters, angler, camper, paddler, hiker, biker, and self-proclaimed “all round good guy”. He lives with his wife Jen and their two daughters in Monona, WI.
11:00AM – Nipigon River Adventures for Giant Brook Trout
Red Rock is located at the mouth of the Nipigon River on Nipigon Bay of Lake Superior. For those who might not know, the Nipigon River is where the World Record Brook Trout (14 ½ pounds) was caught by Dr. Cook in 1915, a record that still stands today, 102 years later.
Given Ray’s past interest in fishing and the Lodge’s proximity to the Nipigon River, Ray decided to focus his attention on developing a chartered fishing business, known as Nipigon River Adventures (webpage nipigonriveradventures.com). Over the past 10 years there have been 14 television fishing shows produced and broadcast across North America, Germany and England and can be viewed on YouTube at Nipigon River Brook Trout. The business continues to grow and the fishery routinely produces 4 to 6 pound Brook Trout, even up to 9 and 10 pounds.
1:00PM – Wilderness Trout Fishing in Michigans U.P.
Owner and guide of U.P. Fly Angler, Randy Berndt has been fishing for more than 40 years. Starting as a young lad in eastern Wisconsin, Randy has refined his skills and has worked tirelessly to teach fly anglers of all abilities.
Randy has a Master’s Degree in Science Education earned at Montana State University in Bozeman, where he attended classes and spent his free time fishing some of the best waters in the world including the Yellowstone, Madison and Gallatin Rivers. He is a graduate of Sweetwater Travel’s Fly Fishing Guide School and is Red Cross certified in First Aid, CPR and AED. Randy is a member of the prestigious Simms, Patagonia, and Far Bank Pro Guide Programs.
